The Toronto organization Kids Healthy Cooking, founded and managed by chef Guy Dongué, this Wednesday offered 145 meals to veterans “to mark our solidarity and our gratitude towards them”, in the wake of Remembrance Day the previous week.
The delivery, in the presence of uniformed war veterans, was made to the Canadian Legion residence in the Bathurst and Finch neighborhood.
“Many immigrants like me have veterans in their families,” Guy Dongué explains. “Now that we are established in Canada, we also have a duty to give back to the community.”
“We received funding from the Red Cross to provide emergency meals in the community due to covid,” adds the one who, in October, had cooked and distributed 155 Thanksgiving turkeys in partnership with the Center francophone du Grand Toronto.
During the summer, he cooked meals for the most disadvantaged as part of the Center francophone’s food aid program.
