157 million for food autonomy

Agriculture Minister André Lamontagne will announce this morning that we are going to inject $ 157 million to increase Quebec’s food self-sufficiency.

According to information obtained by TVA Nouvelles, the government in this first phase will focus on the automation and robotization of the production of fresh and processed fruits and vegetables.

We will also want to give the beef industry a boost.

According to our information, the government is targeting the creation of 3,800 direct and indirect jobs with robotization, automation and the rise in food standards.

During his press briefing at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, Minister Lamontagne will once again insist on the purchase of agricultural products grown and processed in Quebec.

During the first wave of COVID-19, the government feared a break in the food chain for certain products, among others, for vegetables that come largely from the United States and Mexico in winter.

The objective is to increase food autonomy from 51 to 56%.
