Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, produced by Ubisoft Montreal, arrived on our current consoles and those of the next generation on November 10.
Ubisoft Montreal has been able to demonstrate that despite the pandemic, it is possible to release a vast game in the open world, to incorporate some reality tips that we face on a daily basis and, above all, to deliver a game that packs a punch!
Like its predecessors, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a third-person open-world adventure game. Like its predecessors, there is a story here about an endless war between the Assassins and the Templars. This time, as its name suggests, it all takes place in the year 873 during the invasions of England by the men of the North. In the shoes of the charismatic Eivor the beloved of the wolves, a famous plunderer of the Viking era, you will have to lead your troops of the Raven clan to England in order to found your colony there by asking the help of the sons of Ragnar Lodebrock .
In the “real world”, you play as Layla Hassan, a researcher introduced in Assassin’s Creed Origins, who also integrated the Animus in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Installed in North America near the tomb of Eivor, she and her team attempt to unravel the mystery surrounding the story – her story – once again, thanks to the Animus, a machine developed by the Templars that can read memories. of a person through their DNA.
Eivor’s gender choice is yours, from the earliest moments of the story. A “bug” in the Animus will show two timelines, one for a woman and one for a man. Also, for the first time in the series, you will be able to customize your hero’s traits, ranging from the simple color of hair to tattoos on the body.
While the franchise remains pretty much the same, the main addition to Valhalla, making it hugely interesting, is the addition of Realms: large sections of the map ruled by their Lords. On your side, you will have to go to these different sectors to make yourself known, collaborate, develop alliances or to loot and destroy. Never mind, your decisions will be such that, at times, you risk doubting whether what you are doing “well” … or not. If you have been fooled, duped or if the cause is right.
Per se, Eivor is not an Assassin and is unrelated to their credo. He was given a blade as a gift from friends he met during his brother Sigurd’s previous trip to England.
Managing customizable databases is nothing new in the Assassin’s Creed universe. However, it will have a major role in Valhalla since your will have to grow and prosper your village in order to help your companions and your clan. Everything will revolve around this one as well as around the story of the protagonist.
Forge, Assassins’ office, tattoo shop, fishing nets … almost everything will be there.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is definitely one of the best open world games to date. A few small bugs here and there … but nothing that a patch will not be able to overcome.
