“This should serve as a” wake-up call “” he launched Friday at a press conference. The Chief Public Health Officer of Canada, Dr. Theresa Tam, had just indicated that such heavy daily check-ups are upon us if the trend continues, which portends the worst for the Christmas festivities.
Trudeau once again urged municipalities and provinces to maintain stringent health restrictions, although he was encouraged by his weekly discussion the day before with his provincial counterparts.
“Many provinces have highlighted additional measures that are in the process of being introduced. This is a very good sign. But […] I will be satisfied and we will all be satisfied when we see the cases of COVID-19 decrease, ”he added, promising that Ottawa will provide them with more support.
The Prime Minister stressed, however, that his government’s resources are not without limits, arguing for the need to act now to avoid having to make “hard choices” later.
Mr. Trudeau announced on Friday an additional investment of $ 1.5 billion to help employers with the training and support of their workers, including $ 303 million for Quebec. This is in addition to $ 3.4 billion already provided for in the 2020-2021 agreements with the provinces on workforce development.
“This investment will help Canadians from under-represented groups and those in sectors that have been hardest hit by the pandemic, including construction, transportation and hospitality, to quickly access services to help re-enter the market. work ”, we detail in the announcement press release.
