The Oklahoma City Thunder promoted only 35-year-old Mark Daigneault to the team’s head coach on Wednesday.
Daigneault is now the second youngest coach in the NBA after Ryan Saunders of the Minnesota Timberwolves, who is 34 years old.
Last season, Daigneault was an assistant coach to Billy Donovan, who was recently hired by the Chicago Bulls.
Daigneault has been with the Thunder organization since 2014, and worked for five years as a coach in the G-League.
“The amount of experience he has, especially as a head coach, is rare for someone his age,” general manager Sam Presti said in a statement.
“He has also demonstrated his ability to give confidence to the players and the staff he works with. We are confident that it will help us continue to modernize our approach as an organization in an ever-changing industry. ”
The Thunder were eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the Houston Rockets last season.
