(Augusta) There finally seems to be something normal about this fall Masters Tournament: rain.
About half an hour after Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player made the official tee shots in front of the smallest crowd in tournament history, thunder was heard from Amen Corner. It was only a rumor, but it was quickly approaching.
The course was evacuated due to lightning in the area around 7:35 a.m.
Since the tournament is presented in November, the days are shorter. As a result, the organizers made simultaneous starts from the Augusta National tee boxes.
And since there are no spectators, only 500 people – club members and their families, players’ wives, journalists and tournament officials – gathered for the formal tee shots. Nicklaus was able to count on his wife, Barbara, dressed in the traditional white bitch, to act as younger.
Nine players completed a hole. None of them were successful birdies. Chinese amateur golfer Yuxin Lin committed a double buggy at 10e green.
