Quebec bus manufacturer Nova Bus will invest $ 10 million to expand its plant in Saint-François-du-Lac, in Center-du-Quebec.
The work, which will add approximately 33,000 square feet to the facilities, will allow a laser cutting center to be set up in this plant where Nova Bus has been manufacturing the bus chassis and installing the floors since 1996. Assembly and finishing are then made in the company’s factories in Saint-Eustache, in the Laurentians, or in Plattsburgh, in the United States.
“The expansion of our Saint-François-du-Lac plant is part of our transformation plan and Nova Bus’s strategy to strengthen its position and remain the industry leader in Canada,” said Vincent Plante, vice-president of operations of Nova Bus, informed Thursday by press release.
“This increase in the production capacity of our plant will meet the needs and requirements of our customers and will contribute to the development of new markets in Canada and the United States,” he added.
The mayor of Saint-François-du-Lac, Pascal Théroux, reacted by speaking of “excellent news” for his municipality and for the region.
In addition, during the construction period, around ten Nova Bus employees will move into the new offices of the Bécancour industrial incubator for the development and manufacture of prototypes.
