Jesperi Kotkaniemi unlocks in Finland

Montreal Canadiens center Jesperi Kotkaniemi broke the ice in the SM-liiga, securing an assist in a Pori Assat 3-2 win over JyP Jyvaskyla on Wednesday.

Kotkaniemi watched his teammate Sebastian Wannstrom take a throw-back after directing the puck towards the net. He had previously been shutout in his first four games with his hometown team.

“KK” was also sent for a shootout, but he was unable to outsmart goalkeeper Veini Vehvilainen. Wannstrom was the only one to hit the target in the shootout.

This is a second stay for Kotkaniemi in Pori. He had 10 goals and 29 points in 57 games in 2017-18, before being drafted third in the National Hockey League (NHL) draft.
