Should I buy an Audi Q7 TDI?

I drive 35,000 km a year and am interested in a low mileage Audi Q7 TDI. What do you think of this choice?

Hello Kenny,

First of all, you are probably not unaware that the Q7 shares its technical elements with the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne. These three vehicles have remarkable road handling and are extremely solid.

However, maintenance costs remain high. Anytime you need to replace a part or do a repair, it will easily cost you three times that compared to a Honda Pilot or Ford Explorer.

Obviously, I understand your interest in the TDI engine, frugal to the point of being able to always drive below 10 L / 100 km. A high torque motor, very pleasant in any situation and capable of towing good loads. So be aware that the maintenance costs associated with this engine are higher than with the V6 or V8 gasoline, but its reliability is excellent.

Alas, the problem of the Q7 TDI lies mainly in this story surrounding the dieselgate from Volkswagen. Of course, if you get your hands on one of these Q7s, it’s because the manufacturer fixed them. A reassuring factor because this repair comes with a manufacturer’s warranty. The trouble is, most of these vehicles have been parked for almost two years, without moving. A considerable problem, since it affects several moving parts, in addition to everything in the base. Glitches of any kind could therefore arise prematurely, which is why I highly recommend a thorough mechanical inspection before purchasing it.

So yes, the Q7 TDI is an interesting product, and more inspiring to drive than many of its competitors. However, you must choose it with full knowledge of the facts and take the time to shop around for them in order to opt for the one that will not require you to empty your wallet for repairs.
