Bugatti, one of the most prestigious car manufacturers on the planet, is said to be about to pass into the hands of the Croatian manufacturer Rimac.
Owned by the Volkswagen group, the French company could change hands, and it is the entrepreneur Mate Rimac who is in the process of acquiring it. This information was first put forward by the German media Magazine Manager, then was taken over by Reuters.
Volkswagen and Rimac did not comment on the situation.
Two very different origins
Launched in 1909 by the Franco-Italian Ettore Bugatti, the Bugatti brand experienced a renaissance in the 1980s before being purchased by Volkswagen in 1998. It is the most prestigious brand of the Volkswagen family, alongside from Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche and Bentley.
Rimac, a small Croatian manufacturer of exceptional vehicles, was founded in 2009 and relies on electric motorization in the design of its models. Its first vehicle, the Concept 1, was presented in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show. It was followed by Concept S, then by C_Two.
